New Delhi, India — Global e-commerce giant Amazon has announced a major expansion of its quick commerce business, Amazon Now, aiming to extend the service to 300 cities across India. The announcement was made during the visit of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy to India, highlighting the company’s growing commitment to the Indian market.
Currently, Amazon Now operates in 15 locations, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Kochi. The service focuses on delivering everyday essentials to customers in a shorter time frame, competing with India’s rapidly growing quick-commerce sector.
As part of the expansion strategy, Amazon plans to significantly increase its network of micro-fulfilment centres and urban fulfilment centres. These facilities will support a wider range of products, including groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, personal care items, fashion and beauty products, small appliances, and home and kitchen essentials.
In addition to strengthening its delivery infrastructure, Amazon introduced “Sammaan,” a new welfare initiative aimed at supporting delivery associates. The program includes enhanced health and life insurance coverage, as well as educational scholarships for the children of delivery personnel.
The company also announced plans to expand its Ashray rest centres to 250 locations across the country this year. These facilities will be accessible to delivery associates from across the industry, providing rest areas and basic amenities during work hours.
The move underscores Amazon’s long-term investment in India’s booming digital commerce ecosystem and reflects the increasing demand for rapid delivery services among consumers.
With the expansion of Amazon Now and new initiatives for delivery partners, Amazon is positioning itself to become a stronger competitor in India’s highly competitive quick-commerce market.
